What Location Data Does Hellotracks Register Automatically?
Hellotracks automatically registers certain types of location data from mobile devices, even when field staff do not interact with the mobile app. This data is collected directly from the device’s GPS and is used to log trips, measure distance and duration, record stops, and calculate time spent on site.
Types of location data recorded automatically:
- Waypoints: GPS points along the route that form the exact path. When driving, each waypoint also includes speed in mph to show how fast the device was moving.
- Trips: Complete journey data from start to finish, including route, stops, duration, and distance.
- Trip quality: Evaluates the reliability of the GPS trace, highlighting gaps, weak signal, or multipath issues.
- Trip info: Speed chart for the trip, with peak and average speed, time range, and start/end points.
- Stops at Place: Arrival, departure, and total time spent at a Place (a saved, geofenced location). To learn more about Places, click here.
- Stops at Job: Arrival, departure, and time spent at a Job site (a task or assignment completed by field staff). To learn more about Jobs, click here.
- Pause (random stops at locations): Logged stops at points that are not saved Places or Jobs, giving visibility into unscheduled or unexpected stops.

Automatic registration requires the tracking switch to be enabled or set to “Active” in the mobile app and location permission set to "All the time" or "Always", depending on their device.
